Siem Riep is the town nearest Angkor, a vast complex of stone temples built by the Khmer civilization between 1200 and 800 years ago. There are scores of ziggurats, giant serene faces, walled cities, and tree-encrusted ruins scattered over about 300 square kilometers of jungle.
